Dear Friend,

The wonder of Christmas is upon us. The navigational star shines and beckons us to follow it until we arrive at the birth of our Savior. I often reflect on the story of “The Little Drummer Boy” and ponder what the night that changed history looked like from his perspective. Perhaps, it was something like this.

I still remember the night the star rose—brighter than any torch, steadier than the moon. It pulled me forward as though it beat to its own rhythm, and on my small drum echoed with every step. I was only a boy with no gift to bring, but a simple song tapped out on my crude drum. Yet something in that sky told me even such a humble offering might matter. When I reached the place where the animals breathed warm air into the cold night, I felt a peace that made the whole world seem to hush.

There, in a manger of rough straw, lay the Child. His mother’s eyes shone with a gentle strength as if she already knew the whole world would someday seek Him. Joseph watched protectively, though even he seemed to marvel at the wonder before us. I felt small—smaller than ever—but not unworthy. When I asked if I might play, the lady nodded with a smile that warmed me deeper than any fire. And so, I lifted my drum and let my heart speak through it.

As the rhythm rose, the oxen shifted softly, the sheep settled, and the air itself seemed to shimmer. I played for Him, and though my gift was simple, He smiled—oh, how He smiled. In that moment, I knew that no offering given in love is ever too small. That night taught me that the greatest wonders come quietly, in stables, in songs, and in hearts willing to give what little they have. I hope you, too, may find such wonder this Christmas and carry its light wherever you go.

With humble joy,
The Little Drummer Boy
