“I can’t believe that you would take the time to come here and do this for us. There is no way to put a price on what you are doing.” Those were the tearful words from a former officer who had served in Afghanistan and who had experienced the tragedy of war all too personally. He embraced Steve after the ceremony honoring veterans, active duty personnel, and local first responders at the Michigan Victory Weekend (June 13-15).
We enjoyed a prime location for the Victory Weekend mobile stage at the Juniper Hills Campground and crowds estimated over 5,000 enjoyed three fabulous nights of music (from Southern Edge Band and Charee White), strength demonstrations from the Solid Rock Strength Team, and tons of fun games and giveaways.
For Steve and the dedicated staff and volunteers comprising the Victory Weekend team, the highlights of the race weekend were (1) the always emotional tribute to veterans, active duty personnel, and local first responders which saw at least 114 men women honored for their sacrificial service, and (2) the response to Steve’s invitation to accept Christ.
We were able to count at least 100 decisions but there were probably many more that we were not able to verify. A couple came up to Steve afterward and told him, “We can’t believe that you would come to hang out with a bunch of drunks. Why do you do it?” Steve replied right away, “To bring Jesus.’’ The wife smiled and said, “Well, we’ve got Him.”
That is what Victory Weekend is all about. Thank you for your prayers and support.
