Lodestar Guidance Principle Highlight
on March 11, 2019

COMPASSION: Investing in the healing of others with the willingness to bear their pain.

Awareness of others’ situations and struggle + using your time and resources to help those in need = compassion

Compassion is the ability to see what needs doing right now and the willingness to do it right now.
-Brad Warner

Compassion requires:

  • Other-awareness – Being compassionate requires moving focus away from yourself by deciding to value others and shifting the attention away from you.
  • Self-awareness – You must acknowledge your own situation, experiences, needs, and downfalls. You must accept that we all are in this together.
  • Making room – Your life is busy! Compassion requires making time to listen and to help.

Enemies of Compassion:

  • Comparison/Judgmental attitudes – Blame, insults, and labels alienate others, comparison is not a constructive tool.
  • Delay – Too often our good intentions do not become reality.
  • Denial of personal responsibility – We are always responsible for our actions and inactions!

YOUR ACTION OR INACTION IN THE FACE OF NEEDS INDICATES YOUR TRUE RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST
