Lately, I have been thinking a lot about commitment. Your Bible contains many Scriptures which talk about the benefits of committing one’s life to the Lord. One of the most meaningful to me is Psalm 37:5 which reads, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.” (HCSB)
In a similar way, I like the way that Eric Liddell (the Scottish missionary and subject of the award-winning movie Chariots of Fire) stated his thought about commitment, “Have a great aim – have a high standard – make Jesus your ideal…make Him an ideal not merely to be admired but also to be followed.”
Let Jesus be your standard. Commit to becoming more like Him every day in every way and then your life will be graced with God’s favor. He will act on your behalf.
Dallas Willard, one of my favorite authors, once cautioned us with this powerful line in his book The Divine Conspiracy. “The Lord is my shepherd is written on many more tombstones than lives.”
My friend, write the Lord is my shepherd on your heart and commit your life to Him more than you may ever have done before. Then trust Him for His best for you.
Have a blessed month of August.
