From Steve – August I
on August 1, 2014

There is an old saying, attributed to Charlie Jones that goes, “In five years you will be the same person you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” While those may not be the only things which might have an effect on you, there is certainly a lot of truth in Jones’ comment.

I have been very blessed to see and hear a long list of gifted and powerful men and women of God deliver His message through their sermons and songs. When I reflect on those times, I can definitely see where I have picked up a story or developed a more insightful way of looking at something through my experience with someone or via something I’ve read or heard.

I encourage you to fill your eyes and ears with things that will be fruitful to your spirit and that will help you be a more productive follower of Christ. Read your Bible, read or listen to good, solid Christian books or recordings, and fill your life with people who can help you grow into what God wants you to be.

The Bible reminds us, “Listen closely, pay attention to the words of the wise…” (Proverbs 22:17a HCSB) and, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:2a NIV). Amen!

In Him,

Steve
