During Thanksgiving, I show my gratitude for how the Lord has blessed me by spending time with others. That is what I enjoyed most with Michelle’s family in Tennessee and David’s family in Virginia before and during Thanksgiving. Seeing all my grandchildren these past few weeks was a true and great delight!
Thanksgiving traditions are special in our family too. During the meal, we distribute and hold on to corn kernels to remind us of God’s faithfulness. We ponder and then share what we are most thankful for this year. When we consider what these seeds really mean, we have our statement of faith. These seeds are to grow and bring forth fields of produce, both physically and spiritually.
When our family gathers, I love helping make enjoyable Thanksgiving dishes. I like cooking and stuffing the turkey and creating pecan pies. I also bake my mom’s recipe of rolls, which are great yeast rolls. After eating with my family, I usually take a nap. Afterwards, I am apt to go for a walk, play games with my family, and have a good time resting and relaxing for the rest of the Thanksgiving holiday.
From the New International Version, 2 Corinthians 9:11 states: “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” Just like the corn kernels my family rolls on their fingertips every Thanksgiving, we all have the ability to sow seeds into the lives of our family, friends, colleagues, and even ourselves. May we express our gratitude during the final month of 2016 and celebrate our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, coming to the earth to rescue all humanity!
