In the swirl of activity of life, it is a profound delight to be able to enter into the world of your children for a little while. Barb and I recently had the wonderful experience babysitting one evening for our son, David, and his wife, Havi.

One of our assignments was to tuck little 3 year old Selah into bed and say nighttime prayers with her. After we finished praying, I retreated downstairs with baby Jubal to relax a little and wait for David and Havi to return home. As Barb lingered with Selah for a few moments, Selah said, “You forgot the power.”

Selah is used to a certain routine with her nighttime prayers. Apparently, we’d forgotten something, but Barb wasn’t sure what it was. Selah again said, “You forgot to pray about the power.” Then she offered, “You know, the part that goes the power and glory forever. Pops needs to come back so we can pray about the power.”

Ah, the Lord’s Prayer. We had forgotten to pray the Lord’s Prayer with her, and she was not going to go to sleep without it. So we prayed the Lord’s Prayer together, and she was satisfied. I was much more than satisfied. I was touched to the depths of my spirit. Thank you, God, for the blessing of grandchildren.
